rural spaces
Acreage calls for respect of the sense of 'place' and provide the exciting challenge of working within the context of the 'borrowed' landscape. Sometimes simplicity is called for, a gentle canvas on which the home sits and beds down into the landscape. Other times, a more dramatic juxtaposition of a highly stylised design can look amazing when 'applied' to the landscape. In every case, the garden should reference the architecture so that the development on the land is a cohesive whole, taking into account the practicalities of the site, requirements of the clients, aesthetics/architecture and greater views. Designing to achievable maintenance levels and available resources is an important consideration for the garden's long-term success.
